Uni students won’t be required to be vaccinated before new term… so why risk home learning?

In a press report today, we hear that Uni students won’t be required to prove they have been vaccinated before going to University. This is daft!

I am a Liberal, but in so many situations we demand that vaccinations have to be in place before travel, and to college and University.I really do struggle to see why it is such a challenge to agree to this, as it will bring so many freedoms to young people- and maybe it will even go some way to protect those who aren’t off to college.

My own children went to Nottingham University. Before they could even register for their courses, they had to prove they had had the Meningitis vaccination. It just made sense and was a clear way to eradicate meningitis (which can be fatal) from a community of young people who live closely and often intimately, alongside each other for long periods of time.

So, what’s the difference for this vaccination? Is it because Universities want to restrict campus access?

I am amazed that the NUS aren’t making more of this.

Are they seriously agreeing to restrict the ways University life? And allowing students to arrive from other countries where new variants may be brewing? And why don’t they think that vaccination is their key to freedom too?

Of course those who cannot be vaccinated for ongoing health reasons would not have to prove vaccination, but this shouldn’t deter universities who already insist on other vaccinations.
