Lib Dems challenge Government Ministers: do not delete the Test and Trace App – the public need to see that all MP’s can be contacted via the app too.

Davey warns Johnson: No app, no job
The Leader of the Liberal Democrats Ed Davey has challenged the Prime Minister to sack any Cabinet ministers who have deleted the NHS Test and Trace app. As thousands of people across the UK are forced to self-isolate after getting ‘pinged’, reports have suggested senior Government officials have removed the application off their mobile devices.Davey warns that ministers risk undermining trust in the app and has told Boris Johnson he should sack cabinet members who cannot publicly confirm they are still using it.

Leader of the Lib Dems Ed Davey MP writes in a letter to the PM:“If a Member of the Government refuses to post proof online that they use the covid-19 tracing app, you should sack them on the spot. No App, No Job – simple as that.”I will be posting proof I use the app, as will every Liberal Democrat MP.  It is our duty as politicians to show leadership. “The only way we can ensure schools reopen after summer is if our Test and Trace system works, and the public trusts it. “Britain needs to have confidence in the Government during a national crisis. With COVID rates soaring, and the public rightly concerned about your strategy for easing all restrictions at once reckless, it is time you showed personal leadership.  “If the public stops using the Test and Trace system, the health risks could be uncontrollable. There will only be one person to be blamed for that.

Ed Davey’s full letter to Boris Johnson is below
Dear Prime Minister,
As businesses reopen and millions of people hope to return to normality, your actions have completely undermined the Test and Trace system which serves as one of our key defences against this virus. By refusing to self-isolate until you were publicly shamed into doing so, you have obliterated public confidence in this Government’s plan to ease restrictions. Just like Dominic Cummings last summer, and your former Health Secretary in recent weeks, you have shown it is one rule for you and your inner circle and another for everyone else. You must now make amends, starting today I am calling on you, and every member of your Government, to confirm publicly that they follow the rules of the COVID-19 Test and Trace system, such as proof of using the Trace app, including Welsh and Scottish apps if applicable.
If a Member of the Government refuses to post proof online that they use the covid-19 tracing app, you should sack them on the spot. No App, No Job – simple as that.
I will be posting proof I use the app, as will every Liberal Democrat MP.  It is our duty as politicians to show leadership. The only way we can ensure schools reopen after summer is if our Test and Trace system works, and the public trusts it. Britain needs to have confidence in the Government during a national crisis. With COVID rates soaring, and the public rightly concerned about your strategy for easing all restrictions at once reckless, it is time you showed personal leadership.  If the public stops using the Test and Trace system, the health risks could be uncontrollable. There will only be one person to be blamed for that.
Yours sincerely, Sir Ed Davey MP
Leader of the Liberal Democrats
