Stanmore Lane junction improved at last!

by Jackie Porter on 27 March, 2014

A £150,000 project by Hampshire County Council to improve the junction of Stanmore Lane and Romsey Road in Winchester will start on 7 April.

The project will see the layout altered to add a second traffic lane approaching the junction, as well as the removal of the underused pedestrian crossing and the installation of a replacement uncontrolled crossing, further to the south. The new crossing point will work better for pedestrians who currently cross the road, and will be manned by a School Crossing Patrol at school times.

Construction work is expected to take nine weeks.
Preparatory work will start on 1 April.
Stanmore Lane will be closed in one direction (northbound approach to Romsey Road) from 7 to 18 April, while the road is widened.
The road will then remain open using temporary traffic lights while the works are completed.
A fully signed diversion route will be in place for the entire construction period to help traffic avoid the area.

There will inevitably be some delays during the construction period, which will start during the Easter school holidays , but please bear with it- the disruption should be worth it in end!
