Jan was joined by Peter to make their deputation to the County Council with over 2000 signatures showing support for the Trucked Off campaign
This campaign was masterminded by local people who want commercial companies to respect the character of the market town of Alresford by using appropriately sized vehicles for their work.

Jackie says,’ Like many other towns and villages, Alresford’s roads were not designed for the huge trucks used by national companies today. Sections of guttering have been pulled off houses and the old bridge (11th century) shakes as traffic passes over it.
Food shops in the town use massive lorries too- and neighbours have to protect their homes to save the brickwork.
I hear other councillors who have a great deal of sympathy with the sentiment of this petition. It’s simple- and something the authorities could deal with at all levels: borough councils could check up to make sure that they companies only carry out their permitted lorry movements, the county could carry out traffic management and restrict the size of lorries in market towns and rural roads and the Government could make it easier for councils to impose restrictions.
As a Liberal Democrat, I want to see a fairer society. In a responsible trading environment, companies should still be able to profit, but not at the expense of local residents.’
