After a considerable amount of discussion about the size of the homes on this site, there has now been a sale of this site to a developer. In my mind, this was the wrong thing to do- and I have expressed my concerns to the Housing Team at WCC about this decision.
I like the ethos of Footsteps -as they want to create homes people can afford to buy. To do this they are creating flats which are small- almost ‘pocket living’ so they can be sold on the open market.
But Kings Worthy has flats for sale: there are ex Council flats-of good size- in the same area, of about the same price-and with no limitations on future sale conditions.
I would have liked to see several older person’s bungalows here instead. Bungalows are especially popular for the over 70’s. Bungalows would have fitted in better with this area, which is close to facilities. They could have been owned by WCC and rented out at a modest rent.
But yet again, WCC is selling publicly owned land for just a small profit- instead of thinking long term of the future needs of our population .
