Garage area in Mountbatten Place sold to Footsteps (local developer) for 8 homes for sale.

by Jackie Porter on 5 December, 2018

After a considerable amount of discussion about the size of the homes on this site, there has now been a sale of this site to a developer. In my mind, this was the wrong thing to do- and I have expressed my concerns to the Housing Team at WCC about this decision.

I like the ethos of Footsteps -as they want to create homes people can afford to buy. To do this they are creating flats which are small- almost ‘pocket living’ so they can be sold on the open market.

But Kings Worthy has flats for sale: there are ex Council flats-of good size- in the same area, of about the same price-and with no limitations on future sale conditions.

I would have liked to see several older person’s bungalows here instead. Bungalows are especially popular for the over 70’s. Bungalows ¬†would have fitted in better with this area, which is close to facilities. They could have been owned by WCC and rented out at a modest rent.

But yet again, WCC is selling publicly owned land for just a small profit- instead of thinking long term of the future needs of our population .
