Residents will have received a letter about the Stockbridge Road road closure on 3rd Dec.

Work is long overdue & the letter only explained some of the work.

I asked three further points because I know that you have all been unhappy about the state of the road for many years, despite our submissions to ‘REPORT IT’ on www.hants.gov.uk

I had three more asks:

  • The west end from Pigeonhouse Field west to the A30  is breaking up very badly too. Can you review whether this should be done too please? I think it is worthy of consideration for repair.
  • To facilitate this work is completed, please could you put out notices on and near the road earlier: we think many of the vehicles that park there are not local but for businesses, the pre-

school  and commuting. They may not be householders. This has happened in the past and we don’t want the expense of organising this to be a waste of time because parked cars remain.

  • Can you confirm HCC will cut back the hedge in Stockbridge Road alongside the Coach and Horses pub before any road maintenance starts? A resident and I have reported this before because the hedge is growing out and obscuring the road.

I have had a reply from the team. This extract answers a lot of those queries

This visit is only for the pre works which is actually crack sealing.

We tend to spend the winter months doing our prep work, such as pre patching, crack sealing etc, so the roads are ready for the surface treatments in the spring when the weather is ‘slightly’ better! So, microasphalt works will follow in the Spring.

The parked cars will hopefully not be a major issue for the crack sealing but they will obviously affect the main works when they happen. The team will look at ensuring we do everything we can to highlight the closure and put measures in place to keep it clear of parked cars on the working days.

With regards to the hedge cutting, this has been ordered separately by the area office (possibly due to a previous enquiry), the job was ordered in October and is still live in the system to be completed. We will certainly ask them to try and make the most out of the road closure.

The top end of the road wasn’t chosen for microasphalt as it was felt it was in a condition too poor to accept it. We are going to have another look and see what we can do with that section from Pigeonhouse Field to the A30. We’ll see if we can get that done ahead of the microasphalt in the spring.

And if you see anyone parking their car on Stockbridge Road that day- please warn them to move it- it may get dusty!
