Hampshire County Council formally approved to implement this scheme on Decision Day 9 September 2024 Please view the Decision Report. Worthy Road Active Travel Phase 2
Phase 2 of the Worthy Road Active Travel scheme aims to improve pedestrian and cycle provisions along the entire Worthy Road corridor, from the City Centre to Kings Worthy. This phase has been developed alongside Phase 1 and is nearing the completion of its preliminary design. However, due to a lack of funding, no further work will be undertaken beyond this stage.
Should funding become available, it is unlikely to be sufficient to complete Phase 2 in its entirety. The design process has identified several issues along the corridor, including construction costs, highway structures and potential traffic restrictions. Therefore, if funding is secured, prioritisation will be necessary to determine which aspects of Phase 2 offer the best value for money and are most feasible to deliver.
The City of Winchester draft Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan (LCWIP) identified and prioritised the B3047 Worthy Road between The Worthys and Abbotts Barton as a route that could be made more inclusive for all by making it safer and more attractive to travel along.
