It was good to see Butterfly Plants, a local nursery, at the Festival
What a fantastic day for the Festival!
The sun was shining as the Watercress Parade rose from The Soke into Broad Street at about 10.30. Already thousands of visitors and locals thronged through the town, lining the route as the young Watercress King and Queen on the watercress cart waved to onlookers!
The Cart of Watercress is a traditional opener to the festival
As usual the watercress ‘recipe challenge’ revealed some unusual recipes- I tried watercress and pesto fudge! Local organisations had a chance to make money too- the WI Country Market was too full to go in at 11am!
The Jo Glover Trust benefitted from donations for the Watercress-can anyone tell me why it came from Dorset?
Foodstalls were doing a roaring trade, shops were open too as the local police walked through the good natured crowds listening to the music. I was tempted and bought a range of local foods before making my way home on the new Sunday bus service… see the next article!
Had a great time, despite the crowds.Lovely to see so many local food producers there. Got some local asparagus, and some herbs, and watercress. Tried some local ice cream, very moreish. Morris dancers always a delight to see perform. Will be back next year.
