Cart & Horses/ A33 junction-Report of our Deputation to Council on 24th November.

by Jackie Porter on 25 November, 2016

Two of our residents took our pleas for Make it Safer-make it 40 campaign to the County Council yesterday, Thursday 24th November.
There had been an accident requiring the Emergency Services to attend on the evening of the 23rd, and at the time of our deputation, we had no idea of the circumstances or the consequences of the accident.
We learned later in the day that a pedestrian had tragically died.
The whole community is devastated by the news.

At the Deputation, David and Jill called for these actions:
* Recognition that there is problem with the current layout of this double-junction and that this represents a serious road safety risk
* An immediate and thorough independent traffic survey and accompanying risk assessment
* An independent recommendation on required changes to the layouts of both junctions – with this recommendation made without taking budgets & costs into consideration
* A thorough review of the recommendation by the Council and a resulting public statement on the planned changes to the junction(s)
* A short-term & immediate reduction in the speed limit on the A33 leading up to and away from the junction in both directions.

We look forward to hearing what the ‘next steps’ are, and the deputees were hoping that the pleas were heeded.

Sergeant Jon Bates from the Roads Policing Unit said: “This collision happened during the evening rush hour. If you saw anything and haven’t already been in touch, please contact me on 101 quoting 44160442729.”
