Broadband: Jackie presses for progress at the County Council (Thursday 19th September)

Has the County Council lost the impetus for fast broadband over the Summer?

I asked the question at Full Council because yet again, the promise to publish the plans for broadband rollout have been delayed, and this time ‘no news is bad news’….

I was told that the maps would be on the website in earlier this year, then July, then August, then September- we are still waiting!
Meanwhile businesses in the area have to decide whether to move or invest in their own infrastructure, and homeowners with home working or education concerns can’t decide whether to stick it out or move on.
The phone signal is poor too- making it impossible to work efficiently from home, even if your employer demands it.

The public need to know what is being done and where it is happening, so they can make choices.
But most important, the County Council needs to work proactively with BDUK and BTo deliver fast broadband even in the rural areas.

Chilcomb residents are worried that being the 'pin-up' for broadband doesn't seem to make the promises any more likely

What about delivery to the last 10 %? We know it can’t be done by the fibre, and won’t be funded by BDUK, -so why wait until 2017? Why not start to sort that out now? The leader has said he would consider the use of the HCC reserves for this. Sounds a good idea to me!
Wouldn’t it be wonderful, if just once, rural areas got something first-and not last?

I live at Hintons Cottage 135 itchen stoke (first house as you enter the village from Winchester).I have a thick file detailing extensive problems with phone line ever since we moved into the house nearly 10 yrs ago.Briefly without line for 3 months on one occasion and one month on another.eventually forced to sign up to BT business to get a better response and eventually persuaded bt to install a new line in last year.Service has improved albeit at greater cost but broadband speed pitifully slow.Unclear if will now get superfast.Impossible to work out from Phase 4 map.I would be very grateful if you could help.
