Hampshire refuses to take any more fridges at Recycling sites

by Jackie Porter on 27 October, 2016

Could we end up with a fridge mountain? Or could it be a novel idea for a roundabout? (this was an innovative garden at RHS Hampton Court!)

(this was an innovative garden at RHS Hampton Court!)

Hampshire County Council is failing residents as it closes its doors to any more fridges this month.
The County says that the Government scheme isn’t working, and so they can’t accept more…
but Jackie is calling for HCC to stockpile the old fridges to avoid them being fly-tipped in the countryside.

Jackie says,” Residents tell me that it’s not OK to refuse the fridges- if left outside they will rust and deteriorate- and that makes it even more difficult to take to the recycling centre!

Jackie is surprised that having just agreed a fly tipping strategy, the County is sticking its head in the sand on this problem.

Asking our MP’s to sort this out is rather pathetic isn’t it! Surely, in the spirit of devolution, we can rely on our local Council to sort out the disposal of a fridge?
