The Government has signalled it could be prepared to drop plans to force housing associations to sell homes to tenants and pursue a voluntary programme instead.

Alternatives to the plan have been drawn up by the National Housing Federation, who could see the proposal just cannot work. Was it a quick fire suggestion by a Government that didn’t understand how the finances of affordable homes really worked?
Communities Secretary Greg Clark told the NHF conference he was open to the idea but he has given social landlords just a week to decide how to respond and sign up to the deal. Hardly the best way to work with such a vital sector of the housing market!
