Watercress Way EGM on 7th September at Martyr Worthy Village Hall-all welcome!

by Jackie Porter on 25 August, 2015

watercress way logoSince the Worthys Conservation started to care for the old line at Kings Worthy, and the short section of the railway line in Itchen Abbas was designated a public footpath, there has been a great deal of interest in the use of old railway lines in this area.

This has given us the opportunities …
*for walks and recreation along and round them,
*to examine the ecology and the history,
*for conservation and restoration.

To make it easier to talk about this network of old lines, (by votes from Friends of the Line), the ‘old’ network to the east and west of the main line to London have been given a name- The Watercress Way.
Now we need to start a society or organisation- and to do that we need to hold an EGM
From that we can organise a bank account, apply for grants and make representations as a properly constituted body.

This EGM will achieve that.
Please come along to Martyr Worthy Hall in Church Lane, Martyr Worthy at 7.30 on the 7th September to show your interest. Please don’t worry- you won’t automatically be given a job! All welcome!

We hope the evening will be interesting with information on
*how you can get involved
*the ecology projects
*the development of other lines in Hampshire
*the opportunities to link sections of the railway route in walks around the area
*the support from South Downs National Park

    Good luck.
All new Footpaths are most welcome. You are fortunate to be able to create these links following routes of historic significance.
Let me know when I can carry out a test walk.
