Or why sandbags should be a thing of the past!!
I visited J&J Carter at Andover. They are reknowned makers of big temporary structures and in 2012, won the North Hants and Test Valley Aspire Awards for a new product to hold back water: very useful in times of flood. The product is locally created in Hampshire in the J and J Carter factory in Andover and I think, has enormous potential to help in situations where the course of flood water needs to be diverted or a house protected.
The product is recyclable, and because it can be emptied easily, is very easily carried to where it is needed. Water (locally available in these situations) is pumped in and can be pumped out when the floods disperse.
We discussed the business itself. J&J Carter are typical of a small local business with a big impact. They have a local workforce, and are committed to train apprentices successfully.
I think that this product could be useful to Hampshire County Council and to residents in our community.
